The Hegen guide
Find your bottle. Find your flow.
A bottle size for your routine. A teat flow for your baby.
Choose a bottle with room for the feed you prepare, then select a teat that suits your baby’s pace. Use Hegen’s age recommendations as a starting guide and let your baby’s feeding comfort help you choose.

Compare the four feeding sizes
Explore the included teats in the standard local feeding bottles. Replacement teats let you choose your preferred flow across Hegen bottle capacities.
| Bottle | Included flow | Teat mark | Starting guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60ml / 2oz | Extra Slow | 0 | From birth |
| 150ml / 5oz | Slow | 1 | From 1 month |
| 240ml / 8oz | Medium | 2 | From 3 months |
| 330ml / 11oz | Fast | 3 | From 6 months |
At three, six and nine months
As your baby grows, revisit bottle capacity and teat flow together. Keep the flow your baby manages comfortably and explore the next stage when they are ready.
- Around 3 months: consider whether the current capacity is enough and whether Medium flow suits the feed.
- Around 6 months: Fast flow is an option for babies ready for it. Thick Feed has a different purpose.
- Around 9 months: introduce supervised sipping practice with a Straw Cup alongside the feeding routine that suits your baby.
Find a comfortable feeding rhythm
Choose a teat that lets your baby feed comfortably at their own pace. Check the teat assembly and air vent, and use the age labels as a starting guide. If you need help choosing a flow, ask a qualified feeding professional for guidance tailored to your baby.
Fast Flow and Thick Feed are different
Fast Flow, marked 3, is a milk-flow option from around six months. Thick Feed, marked Y, is designed for a different consistency: thicker liquids or appropriate semi-solid feeds during weaning. Choose by feed consistency and your baby’s readiness, with your clinician’s guidance for thickened feeds.
| Teat | Purpose | How to choose |
|---|---|---|
| Fast Flow | Milk feeding | Follow comfortable feeding cues |
| Thick Feed | Thickened feeds | Match the prescribed or appropriate feed |
Beyond bottle feeding
Choose a drinking format for the skill being practised, with adult supervision.
| Format | Starting guide | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 330ml Straw Cup | 9 months+ | Sip through a straw |
| 240ml All-Rounder Cup | 12 months+ | Sip around the rim |
| Drinking bottle with spout | 24 months+ | Drink through a spout |
